The Thomas Jefferson Gardens Board will be hosting another “Meet Your Legislator “on Saturday March 13, at 10:00 A.M. This is the third year the Thomas Jefferson Gardens Board has provided this community service.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this forum will be provided virtually via Facebook. The Board and moderator once again request your patience. The first virtual session last month went relatively smoothly, with the only malfunction being “muffled voices”. The Thomas Jefferson Gardens Board believes that a solution has been identified. Questions may be submitted via “comments” on the Facebook page.
Senator Jesse Green, and Representative Phil Thompson who represent Greene County both have committed to attending. The Legislative body passed its first funnel on March 5th. This means legislation that has passed out of committees of both houses may now proceed. The forum will be a time to ask about current legislative bills.
Senator Green represents Senate District 24 which is composed of Greene, Boone, and Hamilton Counties, along with portions of Webster and Story County. He is a 5th generation Iowa farmer, and resides on a farm near Harcourt, Iowa. He is participating in his first Legislative session. He serves on the following committees: Administrative Rules Review, Agriculture, Natural Resources, Veterans Affairs, Vice Chair Labor, Education Sub Appropriations, Ways and Means, and Human Resources
Representative Thompson represents District 47 that encompasses Greene and most of Boone County. He is beginning his second Legislative session and is a Jefferson native. He has been appointed to serve on the Appropriations, Economic Growth, Education, Government Oversight, Veterans Affairs, and Chair of the Economic Development Budget.
Rick Morain, former editor of the Jefferson Bee and Herald, will again serve as the moderator for this virtual interaction. Questions for the Legislators may be submitted via Facebook, or to their e mail addresses to be answered individually at a later time.
